We all accept that Google is awesome for finding decentralized information. Why can't there be a Google for media content? (There will be.)

@froginthevalley All of this said: Slack is an amazing company and I suspect they're thinking about all of these things.

@froginthevalley And just like people only really use five apps, I only pay attention to three of my Slack communities. Quickly unwieldy.

@froginthevalley Realtime often works for enterprise, but in wider communities excludes people on different timezones. Not web scale.

@jetbrains Similarly, when a function returns a class with a method, function()->method() doesn't parse anymore. Bug? It's driving me nuts.

@maiab It flipped this summer. I have a lot of people on Apple / Facebook / Twitter, and very few indeed on SMS. Even my mom uses Fb now.

@smc90 I'd love to have a conversation about this. We're building something along these lines, and your feedback would be awesome.

@erinjo I assume your cats will get your hand-me-down.

@zer0n1ne That's a great call use case. Also implies that you could turn off calls on your phone for a while but let emergencies through.

@Ronin_Jim @Haje There are lot of talented people in Edinburgh, but it's frustratingly hard to raise money or find an audience.

@iboxifoo Yeah, I was using it as a terrible shorthand. I'm glad they stopped using it; implies "copying Silicon Valley".

@Ronin_Jim @Haje I think there's a big emphasis on grants and government funding vs creating an actual investor ecosystem. Hard to scale.

Scotland's startup inaction is particularly crazy because the University of Edinburgh is one of the best CS / AI schools in the world.

@njyo @aral I'd say a 0% chance, but I'd still support them. At the very least they can influence the Democrats in that direction.

@ShaneHudson I actually think the EU has legislation about this. Worth checking: it's likely that you're considered permanent after a year or even less.

@aral It's between @lessig and Sanders for me. Both are arguing for an America I want to live in; together would be a dream ticket.

@steveklabnik This is true, but I'm honestly surprised America celebrates labor in any kind of way at all.

The labor movement fought for so many things that benefit all of us. It's fitting, if, sadly, surprising, to have a day to honor them.
